I pledge my honor that I have abided by the Stevens Honor System
When it comes to engineering, intellectual property is something largely important. Companies will likely to have you sign contracts that forbid you from stealing any ideas, sharing any ideas, and keeping even your own ideas. Everything will belong to the company, and these ideas will be what makes them money. Typically these ideas will good enough that a trademark will be made, or a patent will be applied for, so that legally the idea will be owned by either the individual or the company behind them. It is these trademarks and patents that allow for the free flow of ideas, for without them, no one would want to come up with new ideas or create new things, it simply wouldn't be economical. It is also very important that engineers respect trademarks and patents, in that they don't use others ideas as their own. If not this will likely result in a court case which will only end poorly for both you and your employer.
