Exercises

For the exercises I will be using the Wireless charge mouse pad and heated glove proposal

Exercise 1: Course Website

• Created the Google Site complete with the pledge, GitHub link, name, and class title

Exercise 2: Raspberry Pi

• Setup for Raspberry Pi, updating NOOBS and changing settings to allow for connections, whether physical or wireless

Exercise 3: Needs Assessment

• Objective: To warm the hands of people who get cold hands while using a computer mouse for long periods of time
• Background: Mostly directed towards gamers and workers who usually spend lots of time on a computer
• Methodology: Create a set pair of a glove and a mouse pad that work together similar to how wireless phone chargers do. Regular gloves can be an option, but they are usually uncomfortable to wear
• Expected Results: Users will be happy that they can have warm hands while using their computers. It is a fairly common occurrence, especially for workers aged 50 and up. Typically they are willing to spend money on things that keep themselves warm.
• Costs: $100-150 range to afford the wireless charging components along with the mouse pad and glove

Exercise 4: Problem Formulation

• Problem 1 : People who use computers a lot end up with a cold mouse hand
• Problem 2 : Most of the current options for gloves are either regular commercial ones that are weird to use a mouse with, or compression gloves that only work to prevent issues like arthritis and similar ailments

Exercise 5: Solution Development

• Find out what makes a gaming glove comfortable
• See how many people would be fine with using a mouse pad
• See how many people would be fine with using a glove
• Determine if people would feel safe using wireless technology to heat something so close to a computer

Exercise 6: Intellectual Properties

• There are trademarks for wireless charging technologies that would have to be examined and evaluated
• There are many companies that develop similar gear for people
• There are patents for heated gloves, but these gloves use wired technology for charging and are generally used for outdoors activities

Exercise 7: Abstraction and Modeling

• System Model :
  • Hardware - a glove and mouse pad, of which the mouse pad would likely have a cable to connect to the computer
  • Software - Glove can sync up with the mouse pad, most likely something like Bluetooth
• Process Model :
  • Hardware - Create a rough design using modeling software
    • Use electrical software to test out circuitry
    • Assemble a prototype
  • Software - Write some basic code to get familiar with wireless connections
    • Work on a paired glove/pad setup
    • Combine software and hardware

Exercise 9: Ethics and Liability

• Defective items are to be shipped back with a full refund within the set insurance time period
• The product will be simple to use and designed primarily for safety and comfort

Exercise 10: Failure and Hazard Analysis

• All products will remain under service warranty for life to fix any potential issues
• Any issues or injuries due to fire or electricity will be fully taken care of by my company
• A flier/waiver will be used to ensure that the user knows of any problems that could arise, and ways that the items are to be used and handled so as to prevent them

Exercise 12: Implementation

• For implementation it is a good start to begin looking at the materials provided for the Steven's Expo
• There is a Steven's Expo app that has a lot of good guides and instructions as well as manuals
• Professors are also available at most times in order to give advice on what direction to go. They are a valuable resource to use
