Art
During the Summer term we explore the artist Carl Giles' work. The children will explore his techniques and use them to create their own art work.
The children will also explore tints and shades using a range of resources including chalk, paint and charcoal.
Design technology
The children will be designing, constructing and evaluating their own 3d castle.
They will look at the features of castles and then design their own with careful planning and consideration of what a castle needs.
Summer 1: Networks and the Internet
Children are introduced to the concept of networks, learning how devices communicate.
From identifying components, they learn how information is shared and they deepen their understanding by exploring real world networks.
Summer 2: Top Trumps Databases
Children are introduced to how data can be stored and presented digitally. They will learn to use Google Sheets to create charts and present information. They will eventually use these skills to plan and organise a holiday!
French in year 3 is taught by Madame Ryan.
In the summer term the children will learn about:
animals
colours
numbers
classroom objects
subject pronouns
Our topic of Ancient Egypt will last the entire Summer term. The children will learn important aspects of the Ancient Egyptian civilisation such as daily life, beliefs, culture and society, childhood and toys as well as inventors and inventions.
During this topic the children will have an opportunity for a dress up day and celebrate their learning about the Ancient Egyptians.
Music in year 3 is taught by Mrs Kolendo.
This term the children will explore ‘Graphic Notation’. They will learn that we can use a variety of different symbols to represent the different instrumental sounds. They will explore how to notate these symbols to compose and perform a short piece of music as an ensemble.
Through learning a variety of songs and listening to a selection of music, the children will also
explore how the use of tempo and dynamics contributes to creating an effect in music.
The above diagram is an example of Graphic Notation score.
Summer 1
Gymnastics Children focus on improving the quality of their movement, eg. by stretching fingers and pointing toes, to help them produce tension and extension. They plan and perform sequences of contrasting actions, and develop flow by linking actions smoothly and planning variations in speed.*

Plants
In the first half term, children learn to identify and describe the functions of different parts of flowering plants. We explore the part that flowers play in the life cycle of flowering plants, including pollination, seed formation and seed dispersal by understanding pollination and fertilisation. Children investigate the way in which water is transported within plants by observing the transport of food colouring through a flower stem.
During the second half term, we investigate what plants need to grow well by carrying out an ongoing investigation through the term by planting seeds and creating different living environments for them. For example, some seeds are planted into sand instead of soil; some are put into a freezer or a dark cupboard instead of on the windowsill. We record our findings using simple scientific language, drawings, labelled diagrams and bar charts by observing and recording the plant growth each week.
Summer 1 - being safe
In this unit of work, the children learn about different types of bullying. This unit will help children to understand what bullying is and isn't, why bullying is never okay and ways of how to deal with bullying.
Summer 2 -
Trinity House
This topic focuses on developing children's understanding of the community aspect of the Trinity and are encouraged to think about what the Trinity means for them and their communities. We discuss the sacrament of marriage and compare the love of a family to the love between the Trinity.
Where is Church?
Children will learn about wider Church communities and know that it consists of home, school and the parish, which is part of the diocese. Children will learn about the Church's mission to reflect the Holy Trinity through love for others.
