We begin this unit by exploring the digital revolution. The children take a look at how quickly technology has developed. We learn about a Micro:bit and decide how it can be suitable for an eCharm. The children are set the problem that a child is walking home from school and wants a keyring for their bag that will help them be seen.
The children write a program to create a Micro:bit flash when it gets dark. They test their program, identify errors, debug it and explain how their finished code works.
The children then create a pouch for their eCharm to secure it to a school bag.
In the unit children will develop as artists, drawing and making annotations, planning and taking next steps in a making process. They will use a range of materials, selecting and using these appropriately with more independence. Their drawing will develop expression and beginning to experiment with quick sketching. They will develop drawing through further direct observation, using tonal shading and starting to apply an understanding of shape to communicate form and proportion. They will explaining their ideas and opinions about their own and other’s art work, giving reasons.

Outdoor Adventurous Activities
Children learn how to read and follow different maps and symbol trails. They also take part in a range of trust and communication activities, and in some adventure games.
Tennis
Children focus on developing the skills they need for net games and on how to use these skills to make the game difficult for their opponent. They learn to direct the ball towards the target area and away from their opponent.

We end the term with our topic of rocks and fossils where children learn to compare and group together different kinds of rocks on the basis of their appearance and simple physical properties.
Children learn how to describe, in simple terms, how fossils are formed when things that have lived are trapped within rock. They will know and recognise that soils are made from rocks and organic matter.
This topic is all about light, reflections and shadows. The children will learn about different sources of light, and that we need light to see. The children will work scientifically and collaboratively to investigate reflective materials. They will work in a hands on way to play a range of mirror games, finding out more about reflective surfaces. They will learn that the sun’s light can be dangerous, and will create an advert for a pair of sunglasses or a sun hat that they have designed. The children will test which objects are opaque and will find out how shadows change when the distance between the object and light source changes. They will continue to develop their scientific enquiry skills, making observations, predictions and conclusions.
