Gesture Drawing with Charcoal
In this pathway, children discover how to make drawings that capture a sense of drama or performance using charcoal.
Children are freed from the constraints of creating representational drawings based on observation – instead they use the qualities of the medium to work in dynamic ways. Linking drawing to the whole body helps children see drawing as a physical activity, whilst a sense of narrative feeds the imagination.
Pneumatic toys
In this unit the children will learn about pneumatics. The will use balloons and syringes to create different types of pneumatic systems. They will plan, design, make and evaluate their own pneumatic toy.
Emails
In this unit the children use gmail to learn how to send emails with attachments. They learn how to be a responsible digital citizen by thinking about the contents of what is sent.
Programming - Scratch
Building on the use of the ‘ScratchJr’ application in Year 2, children progress to using the more advanced computer-based application called ‘Scratch’. They learn to use repetition or ‘loops’ and building upon skills to program; an animation, a story and a game.
Online Safety
Children consider the question, 'Is it okay to share?' They learn about their online reputations and how to protect them.
Children consider the phrase, 'Don’t bite that phishing hook!' They explore whether information is true and reliable.

The UK
Our first Geography topic starts close to home with, 'The U.K.' We consolidate learning that took place in Year 2 by recalling the name of the countries and cities in the UK and begin to learn more about the rivers, counties and high ground. We explore how London and the UK has changed over time. Throughout the topic we develop our skills of using maps and atlases.
Stone Age to Iron Age
Our first History topic looks at changes in Britain from the Stone Age to the Iron Age. We place this on a timeline of key historic periods. We will learn about the tools used in the Stone age and their benefits. The discovery of bronze and iron and how that developed tool making for the people of Early Briton. We investigate the different theories about the building and arrangement of Stonehenge. We also learn about the different jobs one may have in a village in Early Britain and look at the settlement of Skara Brae.
Our topic ends with a themed Stone Age Day, date to be confirmed. This is a dress up day and will include a workshop.
Dance
The children perform dances, focusing on creating, adapting and linking a range of dance actions. They will being to demonstrate an awareness of the expressive qualities of dance.
Tag Rugby
Children learn how to demonstrate the four core skills of tag rugby (running, catching, passing and tackling) within a (small) match scenario.

Gymnastics
Children focus on improving the quality of their movement. They plan and perform sequences of contrasting actions, and develop flow by linking actions smoothly and planning variations of speed.
Netball
The children begin to learn the rules of Netball. The develop the ability the find and use space. They use a range of equipment to develop their throwing, catching and movement skills. They begin to make choices and decisions to outwit their opponent.
Football
Children learn how to outwit their opponents and score when playing invasion games. They develop skills in finding and using space to keep the ball. They play with the same basic court set-up and develop throwing, catching, kicking and striking skills.
Paralympics
Children will learn to use adapted skills in a variety of different paralympic games. These include passing a ball to team players using communication skills in blind football and how to score using assistance in seated netball.
Skeletons and movement
We begin the year with our first topic of skeletons and movement. Children will learn the names of various bones in the human body as well as the variety of functions the human skeleton has. Additionally, children will explore the difference between vertebrates and invertebrates in the animal kingdom.
With this knowledge, they will be able to identify the differences of a variety of skeletons in the animal kingdom and how they effect movement.
Nutrition and food waste
In this topic, children will learn what makes a balanced diet. They will be able to identify and group individual foods into specific food groups.
Children will also learn about the process of food waste, how this affects the planet and how they can rid waste responsibly as global citizens.
Rocks and fossils
We end the term with our topic of rocks and fossils where children learn to compare and group together different kinds of rocks on the basis of their appearance and simple physical properties.
Children learn how to describe, in simple terms, how fossils are formed when things that have lived are trapped within rock. They will know and recognise that soils are made from rocks and organic matter.
Our first PSHE topic in Year 3 begins with children learning about the importance of honesty. Children will understand and know that values are easy to say but can sometimes be hard to do. We learn that owning up can be difficult but is the right thing to do when we have done something wrong. Children also learn that it is okay to be different.
Module 1 Unit 1 - Religious Understanding explores the Gospel story Jairus’ daughter in various creative and reflective ways. Through story and discussion, children will learn that they are designed for a purpose and how they should live in light of this.
Module 2 Unit 1 - Religious Understanding tells the parable of The Prodigal Son, showing that God loves us, and nothing we can do will stop Him from loving us. Children will also learn about different types of sin, and the importance of forgiveness in relationships.
