Major Focus – Development of Solo and group performance skills on the student’s main instrument
Description
The focus is on the performance of music and development of musicianship skills. Students will be required to play an instrument or sing. Students will also develop their music literacy (reading and writing), aural (listening) and performance skills across a range of activities.
Students will also have the opportunity to express their musical creativity through composing and arranging music using a combination of instruments and music technology.

Special Information
Music is an interactive and practical subject which demands high levels of student engagement. Students must participate in all classroom activities, both written and practical, in individual and collaborative settings.
Students are expected to complete frequent and effective instrumental practice in preparation for their performance assessments and other performance opportunities offered at the College. It is a requirement that students must have at least basic to intermediate skills on an instrument (or singing) to actively participate and gain from this course.

• Students are able to undertake both music electives ‘The Producer’ and ‘The Performer’ at Year 10.
Major Focus – Skill development in music creation and technology used in contemporary performances
Description
• Arranging, mixing and composition techniques.
• Development of composition and performance skills using digital technologies including Digital Audio Workstations.
• Set up of a PA system
Learning Activities
• Using music software to arrange, mix and compose music.
• Development of knowledge of the hardware and software used in music production.
• Analysis of contemporary music and production techniques.
Assessment
• Skills in using music software and hardware to complete exercises in digital sound production.
• Skills in arranging/mixing/composing music for specific purposes.
• Analysis of the features of music including music elements and the use of effects.
• Appropriate use of equipment.
Special Information
The focus of this course is on digital music production. Although musical instruments are used, students who wish to play regularly and be assessed on their instrument are encouraged to select Year 10 Music elective ‘The Performer’. Students may choose to study both Music electives.
Successful completion of this subject could enable students to gain a pathway to VCE/VET Music Industry- Sound Production studies.
