VET Delivered to Secondary Students refers to Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses undertaken as part of a student’s school studies. VET courses allow you to earn credit towards a recognised VET qualification while you complete your senior secondary certificate. VET studies can form a part of VCE as well as the VCE Vocational Major. Some VET studies are also counted towards your VCE score.
A VET course allows you to:
Combine a vocational pathway with your studies.
Complete (or work towards) a Certificate I, II, or III qualification.
Keep your options open to pursue further vocational education (such as courses at a Technical and Further Education institute), or move into higher education (such as undertaking courses at university via non-ATAR pathways).
If you wish to complete a VETDSS subject as part of the VCE or the VCE-VM please click here.
VET expression of interest (for both VCE and VCE Vocational Major students) is due Monday August 12.
NOTE: VET is compulsory for students doing the VCE Vocational Major.
Most VET courses are offered externally and involve students attending a TAFE provider one day per week. Students completing an external VET study are expected to keep up to date with their school-based studies. Attendance at TAFE is compulsory. St Bede’s College currently offers one internal VET course: VET Music Industry (Certificate III in Sound Production).
Please note that there are additional fees for VET courses.
Selecting a VET Course
We ask students to list 2 preferences for VET. While we work closely with the TAFE providers to give students their first preference, we can’t guarantee everyone a place in their preferred course or their preferred TAFE. There are external factors that may limit the number of places provided. In those instances, students will be offered their reserve choice. Please note that a VET course is compulsory for students undertaking the VCE Vocational Major Program. Regular attendance at TAFE is also compulsory and students are required to make their own way to and from TAFE.
VET qualifications, or the credit towards a qualification, are recognised by industries across Australia under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF). Information on all VET qualifications and courses is available at www.myskills.gov.au.

NOTE: Students will be allocated to their nearest TAFE from their home address or the one that is available for their VET course.
