Compass serves as the cultural and paleontological resource database available to approved subscribers, providing access to geospatial and attribute data from the Office of Archaeology and Historic Preservation's primary databases.
OAHP received generous financial support from the Office of Information Technology (OIT) to build an entirely new Compass platform, as the needs of our constituents have outgrown the capacity for the original system build. OAHP partnered with development firm GCS to build a more modern system that better meets the growing needs of our constituents. This redesigned system has increased search capabilities with the fields available in the main OAHP database, as well as integration with our GIS database, so that updates can more seamlessly be pushed through into the data available to Compass users.
Subscription Types
Users now have the option to sign up for either a 30-Day subscription or an Annual subscription to Compass. You can find out more information about these subscription types and/or submit your application forms and supplementary documentation on our subscription information page.
Application Process
Each organization is required to submit only one (1) Organizational online application form, to be completed by the Authorized Organizational Representative (AOR). As part of this process, the AOR will list all Individual users within their organization.
Once the Organizational application is approved by our office, each Individual user will receive an email inviting them to submit their Individual online application form. Within three (3) business days of submitting their application, each user will be sent an Individual Access Agreement to be e-signed and submitted back to our office.
Account Expiration Date
Once your account is activated, you may check the expiration date of your subscription by logging in and clicking My Profile under your username.
Annual Subscriptions
Prior to the end of your Annual subscription period, the platform will provide notification via pop-ups, emails, and banners for the AOR to renew the organization's subscription.
The AOR should follow the link to renew from any one of these notifications, add or remove users as needed, and pay the associated fee (if applicable).
Please note: only the organization's AOR has the administrative capacity to renew the Organization's subscription - please reach out to your AOR directly to renew the subscription if your organization's subscription has expired. If you are not sure who is the AOR for your organization, you can view their name and contact information by navigating to the 'My Profile' area of the platform.
30-day Subscriptions
Currently, there is a bug in the system that will not allow 30-day subscriptions to be renewed online. We anticipate the bug being fixed in the very near future. In the meantime, if you would like to renew a 30-day subscription, please reach out to a member of the Compass team and we would be happy to assist you with your 30-Day renewal.
Fee Structure
Please note that our fee structure has changed with the advent of the new platform.
Account Expiration Dates
Once your account is established, you may check the expiration date of your subscription by logging in to your profile, clicking your username, and then 'My Profile'.
Legacy Compass Subscriptions
Please note: the legacy Compass platform has been officially discontinued as of September 30, 2023 and is no longer available to users.
If you had a prior account on the legacy Compass system and have not yet switched over to the new platform, the AOR for your organization will need to set up a new Organizational account. In addition, all Individual users will be required to submit the necessary documentation in order to receive login credentials for the new system, even if they previously had an account under the legacy system. Your login credentials from the legacy platform will not work on the new system.
