The Physical Education Department at Regan Intermediate would like to welcome back all of our students, especially our new third graders, from a wonderful summer and look forward to a year full of activity and fun!
We would like to introduce Miss Grace Loughran, our new PE Teacher. Miss Loughran just recently graduated and is really excited to meet all her new students. She will be working in The Fitness Lab as well as in the Gymnasium. If you see her, make sure to introduce yourself and say hello!
We will begin our year with PE Orientation to learn and practice the expectations for our class. We will have cooperative games for students to participate in to better get to know each other, and an opportunity for us to get to know them. Fitness Testing will begin after cooperative games. We will test students on Aerobic Endurance through a pacer run test, Muscular Strength through a push up test, and Muscular Endurance through a sit up test. This will be our pre-test for the year, and we will assess students once again come the spring to check for improvement. We will also teach basic goal setting. Some other concepts that will be learned are: Respect, Responsibility, Warm Up, Cool Down, Flexibility, Speed and Agility.
After Fitness testing we will teach the soccer and basketball units. We will begin soccer intramurals in the month of September so be looking out for that information!
The following are a few reminders for getting your child prepared for PE:
We will NOT be changing this year. We expect that students wear appropriate clothes to move in which includes appropriate sneakers.
Jewelry should be removed for class for safety reasons. If you cannot remove jewelry, please keep it conservative and know that there may be a risk for injury. Certain competitive activities may require jewelry to be removed to participate as per teacher discretion. This includes necklaces, bracelets, rings, and earrings (stud earrings are allowed). The students must be able to, on their own, get the jewelry on and off in order to wear it on days they have PE. Please practice with your child.
The swim unit for the year will begin in early February and go through the end of March. We will send home expectations and appropriate swimwear as we get closer to the unit.
Preparedness for class is a part of your child’s PE grade. Please make sure that your child comes prepared with clothes that they can move in and appropriate sneakers in order to participate in class.
Sneakers must have proper ankle support and soles in which the student will not slip when changing directions quickly. Students should stay away from sneakers that do not support their ankles such as vans (slip on version), hey dudes, and crocs. No boots are allowed or sneakers with a "high heel." If you have questions, please reach out to your child's teacher through our teacher pages under the three lines in the top corner.
We look forward to getting back to physical education class this year, and hope to provide all students with a lot of FUN activities!!!
