Intermediate school students are required by state law to participate in Physical Education classes. On Physical Education days, it is necessary for students in grades 3-5 to be prepared with clothes they can move in and sneakers (lace type, not slip-ons). We are NOT changing this school year. Please make sure they are prepared for the weather, as we will be utilizing the outside as much as possible during the fall months (sweatshirt and sweatpants).
If a student needs to be excused from Physical Education class, a written request from the parent/guardian is necessary. Students excused for more than two physical education classes must provide a physician's note.
No jewelry is allowed in class with the exception of stud earrings. Students who have pierced ears may wear stud earrings in Physical Education while we are in the gym. While swimming in the pool, earrings must be taken out. If they cannot be removed, students can use the plastic retainers to maintain their piercing. Please assist us in teaching your children how to take earrings out. Valuables should not be brought to class.
Grading is based on 4 standards for PE and Fitness Lab:
Demonstrates basic motor/manipulative skills and game/sports understanding.
Exhibits appropriate personal and social behavior while engaged in physical activity.
Applies cognitive knowledge of fitness, health and sports concepts.
Adequately prepared to participate in class.
