Our dates for our Swim Unit have not been solidified! We will update you as soon as possible.
Swim Unit in Physical Education: The Swim Unit is an important part of the Starpoint RIS Physical Education curriculum, as well as continuing into the Middle School Physical Education program. During the unit, a bathing suit and towel are required; flip flops and goggles are highly recommended. Students will bring their belongings in a bag each class and then take them home after each class; wet bathing suits should not be left in lockers. Students will be provided with a locker during class time only. They will be allowed extra time in the locker room for quick showering and changing. All students are required to take off (out) all jewelry. If your child has just got their ears pierced, we recommend the plastic retainers for the pool. Please make sure they have a zip lock bag or small container to put their jewelry in so that it does not get lost in the lockers.
Third grade students will learn basic in-water skills such as floating, bobbing, kicking, etc. They will stay in the shallow end for the length of the swim unit near the edges of the pool, with the goal of increasing their comfort for the water.
Fourth and fifth grade students will continue to review and advance previous skills, as well as get introduced to new more advanced strokes such as freestyle, backstroke, etc. No deep end activities will take place this school year. Below is a copy of our swim letter.
