9th October 2026

Dear Samakee Community,

Parent Consultation Meetings

We are delighted to invite all families to our upcoming Parent Consultation meetings, where you can discuss your child's progress and wellbeing with their teachers.

We have two flexible options to suit your schedule:

Wednesday 14th October - Face-to-Face Consultations and
Thursday 15th October - Virtual Consultations

We have sent an invitation letter to all families, and online booking is now open. If you are unable to attend either session, please contact us to arrange an alternative time.

During your consultation appointment, you'll have the opportunity to:

Discuss how your child has settled back into school this term
Review their academic progress across subjects
Understand their strengths and areas for development
Learn about their social and emotional wellbeing
Ask questions about their learning and next steps
Share any information that will help us support your child better

Please book your preferred time using the link below:

These consultations are a vital part of our partnership with you in supporting your child's education. We understand that busy schedules can make attendance challenging, so we are offering both face-to-face and virtual options.

We strongly encourage every family to attend - your involvement makes a real difference to your child's progress and wellbeing.

If you have any questions about the consultation meetings, need support with booking, or require translation services, please contact the school office.

Safeguarding Spotlight

Stay Safe Update: World Mental Health Day - 10th October: Support your child's mental wellbeing at home

This week's focus: Create daily 'connection time'

✓ Set aside just 10-15 minutes each day for one-to-one time with your child without distractions (phones away, TV off)

✓ Let them lead the conversation or activity - it could be playing a game, going for a walk, cooking together, or simply chatting

✓ Listen without judgment and show genuine interest in their thoughts and feelings

This regular, predictable time helps children feel valued and creates a safe space for them to open up about worries

Staff Wellbeing!

The second of our Staff Breakfast Social before school, featuring a delicious spread of Thai and European breakfast treats. It was wonderful to see colleagues chatting and laughing together, and staff started their day feeling relaxed, energised, and ready to welcome your children with smiles! These moments of connection and relaxation help our team stay energised and positive, which ultimately benefits every child in our care. Research shows that when teachers feel supported and valued, student outcomes improve. When our staff feel supported and valued, they bring their very best to the classroom every day - Happy Friday!

Teaching and Learning Highlights!

Bringing Books to Life: Weather Play in Early Years!

Our Nursery and Kindergarten children have been exploring rain, storms and changing weather through Rain by Manya Stojic and In the Rain with Baby Duck!

We brought the stories to life through lots of hands-on learning:

We explored what rain feels like by spraying and dripping water onto different materials, comparing what felt wet, soft or cold and discovering which materials soaked up the water.
We created gentle rain for toy animals using pipettes and droppers before using spray bottles to make a full rainstorm!
We drew bright zig-zag lightning with yellow crayons before painting over it with blue “rain”, exploring colour, mark-making and new weather vocabulary.
After reading In the Rain with Baby Duck, we used paint to make wave-like movements while saying “up, down, up, down” as our ducks swam through the rain!

These playful experiences supported the children’s understanding of the natural world, communication and language, fine motor development, early maths, creativity and social skills, all through sensory, hands-on play.

Year 4 Scientists Investigating States of Matter!

Year 4 have been getting hands-on with our States of Matter unit through two exciting experiments!

In our first investigation, we started with water at 50°C and measured its temperature every 5 minutes, observing how it gradually changed and moved towards room temperature.

In our second experiment, we placed ice cubes into hot and cold water and tracked the temperature and melting time to find out which ice cube would melt first!

Through careful measuring, observing and recording data, our young scientists are developing their scientific enquiry skills and learning how temperature affects materials.

What a fantastic way to learn science by investigating, predicting and discovering!

Year 5 Assembly - Vikings: Raiders and Settlers!

A fantastic display of history from the Year 5 class this morning.

We are so proud of our Year 5 pupils for their fantastic Viking themed class assembly. They shared their learning about the Vikings, from their journeys and incredible ships, to their everyday life and belief in Norse gods. They brought their learning to life through speaking, acting and showstopping musical performances.

It was wonderful to see them perform with such confidence, enthusiasm and teamwork. They have worked incredibly hard to prepare, and their knowledge, creativity and enthusiasm truly shone through. Well done, Year 5!

Humanities Day - Voices & Visions

This week, our school community came together for Humanities Day - centred around the theme "Voices & Visions." Throughout the day, pupils across all year groups explored a powerful idea: storytelling is a simulator for empathy. By looking beyond surface impressions (our Visions) and actively listening to others' experiences (their Voices), we build the compassion needed to make our school a more inclusive place for everyone.

Early years - explored feelings, faces and friendly spaces - the core text was “the Rabbit listened’ by Cori Doerrfeld - the focus centred on that being a good friend means listening to how others feel when things go wrong, rather than just telling them what to do. The EY children came together to create a fantastic friendship village.

KS1 explored - being in someone else’s shoes and the book The Boy, the Troll and the chalk - children explored walking in another person’s shoes and seeing beyond first impressions. The children created fantastic art work showing the viewer everything that people can see with their eyes and then the other perspective based on all those hidden talents and feelings on the inside.

Perspective in Years 3 to Year 5

Our year 3 - Year 5 children used Drew Daywalt’s The Day the Crayons Quit to explore fairness, communication, and breaking stereotypes.

The Colour Court Room: in Year 5
Crayon Network News: in Year 4
The Rule-Breakers' Art Studio: In Year 3

Unpacking Courage & Inclusion in Year 6 to Year 9: Older children focused on R.J. Palacio’s novel Wonder, examining what it feels like to hide behind a mask and what it takes to stand up for someone else.

From Solo to Harmony (Music): Year 6 translated emotional themes into musical composition. Pupils composed quiet "solo motifs" representing isolation, then layered them over steady rhythms to physically hear how an isolated melody becomes richer when welcomed into harmony.
Year 7-9 reflected on the challenge of looking beyond the surface and putting Mr. Browne’s famous rule into practice: "When given the choice between being right or being kind, choose kind.” The students then finished the day with an ‘Outshield vs Inner Reality art project.

Humanities Day activities reminded us all that every person walking down our corridors carries a story as complex as our own. By teaching our children to listen with their hearts, we are helping them build a community rooted in everyday kindness.
