GL Assessments: Baseline Testing (Years 3-9)

This week and next, students in Years 3-9 will complete GL Assessments – standardised tests used by schools across the UK to measure abilities in English, mathematics, and reasoning skills.

Why we test in September:

These assessments establish a baseline for your child's current academic level, helping us identify strengths, set appropriate targets, and plan tailored teaching.

Why we test again in May:

Repeating the assessments in May allows us to measure the progress your child has made throughout the year.

Your child's results:

Data from both testing periods will be included in your child's end-of-year report, showing their academic growth and development over the year and from previous years.

Students should simply try their best in a calm, supportive environment. The results help us understand how to best support each individual learner. Please note that these assessments may not be appropriate for all students, and we use alternative methods to track progress where needed to ensure every child's learning journey is accurately captured.
