BSO Inspection: What the inspectors said

Dear Samakee Community,

Following last week's newsletter information on our Outstanding BSO accreditation, this week, we want to explain what it means for your child and to thank all involved in this process.

This Outstanding rating confirms that your child is receiving:

Consistent excellence: This is our fifth Outstanding rating in fourteen years, which means the quality of education your child receives is not dependent on one particular year or group of staff – it's part of who we are as a school

The parent who shared those beautiful words about nurturing children "like seeds into flowers" reminded us why we do what we do.

We will not rest on our achievements. This Outstanding rating inspires us to continue improving and innovating, always with your children at the heart of everything we do. As we begin this new academic year, we are excited about what lies ahead and grateful to share this journey with you.

A Warm Welcome at Our Parent Welcome Evening!

Thank you to all the parents, carers, and prospective families who joined us for our annual Parent Welcome Evening! It was a wonderful opportunity to meet teachers, connect with other parents, explore the learning areas, and learn more about the exciting year ahead.

We loved welcoming everyone to our school community and look forward to a fantastic year of learning and growth together!

Samakee Club Fair 2026!

What a fantastic afternoon at our After School Club Fair! Students and families explored the exciting range of clubs and ECAs available this term and discovered new opportunities to learn, create, and have fun.

We loved seeing our children getting involved and choosing activities based on their own interests.

Here’s to a fun-filled term of new experiences and learning beyond the classroom!

Maximum Safety - SAS Lanyards

Following the recent tragic incident at a school in Thailand, we are implementing enhanced security measures to ensure our school remains a safe, welcoming learning environment and we need your help.

To ensure maximum safety, we are strengthening our entry protocols and asking for 100% participation in following these steps.

For all parents, carers and drivers:

All parents, carers and drivers must enter and exit through the Flap Gates using their own SAS ID Card
SAS IDs are non-transferable: parents, carers, drivers and students must each use their own
A random quick visual bag check may be conducted (you simply open your bag for our staff to look inside)
All parents, carers and drivers must wear their ID Card visibly while on site.

No ID? Remain off premises or check in as a visitor. Show photo ID to a member of staff before entry, sign in and then wear a Red Visitor Lanyard.

Stay Safe Update: Working Together

This week's focus: Building strong home-school partnerships

✓ Communication is key: We encourage open dialogue between home and school. Please share any changes in your child's circumstances that might affect their wellbeing (family changes, bereavements, house moves, etc.).

✓ Our 'open door' approach: You can always speak to your child's class teacher, phase lead, or our DSL about any concerns – no worry is too small.

✓ Upcoming opportunities: Look out for information about parent workshops this term, including online safety.

✓ Action for parents: Make sure we have your up-to-date contact details, including emergency contacts. Update the school office if anything changes.

Little Learners - Tuesday 1st September
ECAs start - Tuesday 1st September

Samakee Little Learners meet on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 8:30 am to 10:30 am during term time, starting on Tuesday 1st September. Our group encourages not only mums and dads but also grandparents, nannies, or other carers to join us with their under-twos for an enjoyable and stimulating morning of activities.

For the best experience, we welcome one adult per toddler. This special one-to-one time helps your little one feel secure and confident as they explore, play, and make friends. We have found that having their own special grown-up allows children to settle more easily and get the most from our activities.

Teaching and Learning Highlights!

Bringing Handa’s Surprise to Life!

Our classroom was buzzing with hands-on learning this week as we explored the story Handa’s Surprise across all our learning stations! Here’s a peek at what we’ve been up to:

Drawing Club: The children let their imaginations soar, drawing their own fruit-filled baskets and the exciting sights they might encounter on a journey to visit a friend.

Maths in Action: Learning came to life at our live fruit market! The children practiced their counting and place value skills using real money to "buy" fresh fruit.

Literacy & Life Skills: To wrap up the week, our young learners put their literacy skills into practice by learning how to write shopping lists. They wrote down their chosen ingredients and then got to make (and eat!) their very own delicious granola yogurt bowls!

Feathered Friends!

This week in Science, Year 2 revisited the key features of birds, thinking carefully about what makes a bird a bird from feathers and wings to beaks and eggs.

We then headed to our school farm to make bird feeders before finding the perfect places to hang them. It was wonderful to take our learning beyond the classroom and do something practical to care for the wildlife around our school. Now we are eagerly waiting to see which feathered visitors stop by for a snack!

Maths in Action!

Our Year 3 mathematicians have been developing their understanding of place value using Base Ten manipulatives!

By building numbers with hundreds, tens and ones, the children have been able to see how each digit has a different value depending on its position. They have been busy making numbers, partitioning them and explaining their mathematical thinking.

Using practical resources like Base Ten helps make abstract mathematical ideas visible, meaningful and fun!

We are so proud of the children's enthusiasm and willingness to get stuck into their learning.

Computer Science

Year 3 explored the Chromebooks today and started creating an 'All About Me' Google Slideshow!

It was wonderful seeing their confidence grow as they logged in, customised their slides, and shared their favourite hobbies and fun facts. A fantastic start to our digital learning journey!
