Saint Roch was born around 1295 in Montpellier, France. When he was born he had and unusual and deep red mark in the shape of a cross on his chest. As he grew older he joined a religious group call The Third Order Franciscans. When he came upon a town that was badly struck by the black plague, he acted quickly and cared for the sick in both their homes and hospitals even though he could get sick. He cured many people by simply making the sign of the cross over them. Saint Roch then became sick himself and went into the woods to die. Fortunately, a hunting dog found him and they soon became friends. He brought him food and water each day and licked his wounds. I chose Saint Roch because of my interest in dogs.
