2018-2019 Goals

Goal 1: Canvas

I will partner with teachers who are interested in extending their use of Canvas beyond the minimum requirements in order to innovate instruction and become power users.

Action Steps

  • Increase face-to-face meetings with teachers on topics such as using submitting choices, Quizzes Next, Assignments, tabbed pages, and discussions to engage students.
  • Increase time in PLCs exploring with teachers how they can engage students and increase communication with parents in Canvas.
  • Co-teach with teachers who are using advanced features of Canvas.
  • Document Canvas use during classroom visits using Twitter.

Success Criteria

  • 5 teachers per campus will use more features of Canvas other than the Calendar and Announcements.

Reflection

For my Canvas goal, I was able to complete my actions steps. I Increased face-to-face meetings with teachers on topics such as using submitting choices, Quizzes Next, Assignments, and discussions to engage students.

I met with many PLCs/teams/grade levels with teachers to discuss how they can engage students and increase communication with parents in Canvas. I have also met with parents who need guidance on how to navigate Canvas. Several times I was able to co-teach with teachers who are using advanced features of Canvas. In addition, I was able to document Canvas use during classroom visits using Twitter. As a result, many more than 5 teachers per campus use more advanced features of Canvas other than the Calendar and Announcements.

Evidence

When Power Canvas Users discover a great way of achieving a task in Canvas, I like to raise them up and share the knowledge with other teachers, creating capacity by sending out an email and tweeting the tip.

The SPED department at Huffines MS has embraced Canvas Quizzes as a way to accommodate students who need tests read to them. This need has initiated collaboration between interventionists and content teachers, especially in the ELA department.

Steve Badyna talks about how he has used Canvas to flip instruction, uploading videos for students to review. He also embeds tools such as Padlet into Canvas to increase collaboration. In this example, his students enjoyed researching Africa and seeing the other positive aspects of the continent.

I regularly contribute to the ITF Collaboration Canvas Course.

I have worked with several teachers who wanted their students to submit a video recording in Canvas.

Goal 2: Device

Help high school teachers maximize the use of iPads with students by making them aware of new benefits: Clips, Pencils, Screen Recording, Files, Self-service, keyboard, Keynote, Pages, and Numbers.

Action Steps

  • Partner 1-on-1 with teachers to maximize their use of iPad interactive features.
  • Model use of new iPad features in professional learning, flex times, and in communication.
  • Feature iOS 12 tools in monthly newsletter.

Success Criteria

5 teachers at Killough will use iOS 12 features with their students.

Reflection

For my device goal, I was able to complete many of my action steps. First, I partnered 1-on-1 with teachers to maximize their use of iPad interactive features on all 3 campuses.I modeled use of new iPad features in professional learning, flex times, and in communication by using clips, screen captures, and my Apple pencil. I did not feature iOS 12 tools in every monthly newsletter, but I featured iOS in a couple.

My result was to have 5 teachers at Killough will use iOS 12 features with their students, and I accomplished this goal with the English department and members of the science department at Killough.

Evidence

I have met with the principal and teacher leaders who have attended the Apple training to formulate a committee to facilitate a professional learning plan to encourage all teachers to take advantage of all the features of the iPad Pro and iOS 12. This culminated in a scheduling of Apple to come to Killough this summer to teach an Apple workshop.

I modeled the use of Apple Clips to show how students can make short engaging videos.

Apple Pencil Tips and Tricks

I developed this resource to help HS departments brainstorm how they are going to develop policies for using the Apple Pencils during their PLCs.

I have met during English's PLC to discuss the Apple Pencils for annotating texts as well as collaborated with the math department chair to discuss their plans to incorporate the iPad Pro features and Apple Pencils in math.

Goal 3:

I will continue to facilitate and improve eportfolio implementation within classrooms.

Action Steps

  • Facilitate creation of ePortfolio sites with students who do not have Google Sites.
  • Partner with LMS to facilitate digital citizenship instruction and creation/uploading of artifact and reflection.
  • Continue to make teachers aware of how they can improve the quality of student reflections.
  • Co-teach with teachers who are having students upload artifacts and reflections.
  • Work with administration on creating or finessing the campus implementation plan.

Success Criteria

All 3 campuses will have a specific implementation plan for ePortfolios.

Reflection

For my ePortfolio goal, I worked on helping students create eportfolios and helping teachers work with students to refine artifact choice and focus on authentic reflection. I facilitated creation of ePortfolio sites with students who do not have Google Sites in September, November, and April. At Killough, I helped implement and facilitate a New Student Digital Orientation, which included the creation of an eportfolio.

I also partnered with with both MS LMSs to facilitate digital citizenship instruction and creation/uploading of artifact and reflection. I continued to co-teach with teachers who are having students upload artifacts and reflections. In addition, I worked with administration, department chairs, and grade level leads on creating or finessing the campus implementation plan. My result was that all 3 campuses have a specific implementation plan for ePortfolios.

Evidence

I have worked with APs on all my campuses to work with new students who do not have eportfolios.

At Huffines, I collaborated with the LMS to create Digital Citizenship lessons in Canvas which culminated with a Google Drive artifact. I then worked with every eligible 7th grader through their ELA classes to upload their digital citizenship artifact, reflect on their learning, and update their All about Me pages.

At DeLay, I worked closely with the LMS and ELA teachers to devise a plan for students to upload their digital citizenship artifact from Google Drive into their eportfolios. I also collaborated with the LMS to formulate a plan to expand digital citizenship into the 6th grade using their eportfolios.

At Killough, I am partnering with an administrative intern to touch base with all new students to make sure they can access all digital tools, including Canvas and Google Drive. We are also creating eportfolios for them.

I take opportunities in mandated training to keep ePortfolios in the forefront of teachers' minds.

At DeLay, the LMS and the ELA teachers can independently help students upload artifacts and reflect on their Digital Citizenship learning.

At DeLay MS, I work with teachers to design engaging learning experiences that reflect authentic learning and result in authentic student products.
