By the end of KS1, pupils will have the confidence to initiate and conduct simple conversation with peers. They will have been exposed to a range of stories, songs and rhymes and will recognise familiar spoken words and phrases. Pupils will develop an understanding of Gospel values through their learning of French, its culture and traditions. In KS1, we focus on high-frequency vocabulary and knowledge that allows children to communicate immediately. Provision is mapped against the National Curriculum Program of Study, focusing on core skills such as listening and responding, speaking and oracy, phonetic awareness and cultural capital.
