MFL Portfolio
The MFL curriculum intends to provide pupils with an opening to other cultures by fostering their curiosity and deepening their understanding of the world. The curriculum allows for spoken and written thoughts and ideas in another language. This ensures that pupils are given the opportunity to build a foundation for further language learning and explore other countries. The curriculum provides pupils with residential visits to France, Holland and Rome in order to experience another culture and communicate for practical purposes.
Gospel values and Catholic Social teaching is embedded in the MFL curriculum enabling MFL learners to develop tolerance and peace in addition to human dignity. Providing opportunities to visit other countries and learn another language builds on pupils’ understanding that everyone is special and unique and exposes them to the traditions and customs of other cultures.
As a multicultural school, it is essential that pupils are exposed to the importance of language learning. This prepares them to be able to use language in the future for leisure, study and work as well as prepare them for the multicultural, multilingual world.
