At St. Helen's, we believe that every child is a linguist. Our MFL curriculum is carefully adapted to ensure that all pupils can succeed and find joy in language learning. We use visual prompts & physical gestures to ensure that vocabulary is accessible to non-verbal learners. We recognise that our EAL students are already experts in navigating multiple languages. Their unique perspectives are celebrated, and they are encouraged to draw parallels between French, English, and their home languages. Our international trips and whole-school events are designed with total inclusion in mind, ensuring every child is offered the opportunity to experience international learning.
Pupils are successful linguists at St. Helen’s because the curriculum is intentionally designed to remove barriers to language learning before they can even arise. To ensure every child thrives, our approach is fundamentally multi-sensory. French lessons allow pupils of all abilities to access high-level oracy and build genuine confidence.
