REFLECT AND PRACTICE
Optional Read and Learn: For those using the book, read the Introduction, pp. xvii-xxvii and chapter one, “Hunger and Thirst for the Spirit: The Spiritual Yearning of Our Time,” Soul Feast pp. 1-16, by Marjorie Thompson.
Reflection: What indications of spiritual hunger and thirst do you perceive in our time? What do you see as the reasons for this hunger? How would you define spirituality for yourself? What makes spirituality distinctively Christian? What reservations or anxieties (cautions) do you have about exploring the spiritual life more deeply?
Practice: Reflect on what is truly essential to your life, let the question rest with you. Take a walk or sit in silence and solitude (no one to talk to, and no distractions). You can start with five minutes if this is new for you. Simply notice how having time to be alone feels.
