Student experiences are meant to broaden the perception and understanding of the concept of TIME by engaging students in a variety of learning modes and messages.
Teachers will participate as either a Facilitator or a Group Guide.
Facilitators are activity leaders. They prepare the activity, organize the groups, set the scene and give instructions so that the students are fully engaged and understand the purpose of the activity. They plan for an activity wrap-up to review concepts and they allow time for students to reflect. Facilitators will be assisted by the Group Guides who accompany the students.
Group Guides are responsible for a single set of students for the duration of the student experiences. This means the teacher will rotate through each of the activities with a set group of students. Group Guides will assist the Facilitators at each activity Xperience.
Each activity has a sub-theme associated with TIME. At the end of each activity the facilitator will review the task, reiterate some of the context vocabulary and concepts and then allow students some time to reflect quietly in their journal. Each student will reflect after each activity - it shouldn't take long but it is an opportunity for students to gather thoughts, ideas and wonderings that they can refer back to when we begin the brainstorming sessions on Wednesday.
Students leave their journal with their class teachers on Monday and Tuesday afternoon - they do not take their journal home until Xperiences and brainstorming have been completed.
The journal is printed as a folded booklet with spaces created for guided journal reflections (one piece of paper, printed front/back, folded)
