Sports Medicine

Sports Medicine is an Option that you can take in grade 10, 11 and 12. This program will be of interest to students who are both athletes and/or aspire to work in the healthcare profession in such careers as Kinesiology, Physio Therapy, Athletic training and so many more. You will be able to use Sports Medicine 30 as a university entrance course for faculties in the healthcare field.

In Sports Medicine we learn a lot about the human body as it pertains to health, wellness and sport. We spend time learning all about the anatomy and physiology of the skeletal and muscular systems. We learn about Injury management in sport from a prevention, treatment and rehabilitation perspective.

One of the best aspects of this course is the Practical application of skills. We spend time learning how to assess an injury, what to do to treat it and the exercises and treatments required for the rehabilitation aspect of the injury. You will learn many taping and tensoring techniques and throughout your time in the sports medicine program you will have a chance to not only build on your skills but apply them to real life situations.

Taking sports medicine at Bellerose will be fun, and an opportunity to learn real life skills, but also serve as a stepping stone to a number of certifications including First Aid and CPR. It is a great course and I invite you to get incontact with Mrs. Thompson (maria.thompson@spschools.org) if you have any questions about the program.
