Grade 11 Workshop
On Monday morning Mr Richardson, Mrs. Jansen and Mrs. Visser ran a three hour leadership training workshop with the newly elected leaders in Grade 11. The focus of the workshop was gaining clarity on roles and responsibilities and building networks. Mr. Richardson started by getting the girls to state their vision as leaders. They then had to identify their mission statements. Their thinking was stimulated by engaging with the vision and mission statements of numerous top companies. He then got them to generate ideas around how to put these into action by noting what needs to be done and finally identifying who will do each task. They also looked at effective ways to set agendas for meetings and to keep minutes. The girls came away with a clearer understanding of their role and responsibilities. Mrs. Jansen then explained the procedures that need to be followed when organising an event from booking a venue, finding a free spot in the calendar, booking security guards if needed, how to handle money issues and so on. The girls found this practical information very useful. Finally Mrs. Visser ran a session in which the girls brainstormed ideas about how to collaborate across their portfolios and houses and about how to get more involved in the running of the connect groups particularly with the emphasis on Springfield being a place of belonging.
Springfield Heritage Day Celebrations - 17 October 2019
On Thursday, both the Junior and Senior school will be celebrating Heritage Day in their own, unique way. The Senior School will begin by decorating tiles in their Connect Groups using acrylic paints and tiles which were kindly donated to the school. We encourage the girls to bring any acrylic paints and brushes along that they might have as well as acrylic paint pens, old t-shirts or aprons to protect their clothes, newspaper to protect the work surfaces and a container to wash paintbrushes. We will then move on to an exciting "secret" performance in the hall and finish up by joining together to form the South African flag. Amasiko has arranged a picnic in the gardens and entertainment following the building of the flag where parents are welcome to join and purchase some tradition South African food from the tuck shop. Remember: - Acrylic paint and paintbrushes - Old t-shirt or apron to protect clothes - Newspapers to protect work surfaces - Container to wash brushes
