Oakley House Conference - Adopting a Holistic Approach to teaching Oakley House hosted an informative conference on Saturday 12 October 2019 attended by Kirsty Tromp. The aim of the conference was to share ideas and thoughts on adopting a more holistic approach to teaching in light of new technologies and external influences on our children as well as developing closer relationships with our students and teenagers as a whole. Pam Tudin gave an eye opening talk on staying connected with your child in the 21st century and her new book, Fortnite & other F-words, can be purchased online for those who are interested in the different apps our teenagers are being exposed to on their cellphones (www.chattprogramme.com). Dr Genevieve Da Silva provided the attendees with tools and new outlooks on problems impacting learners and teenagers in the 21st century and Mandy Turner shared new methods in order to incorporated inclusive education in the classrooms we teach in. Mr Gavin Fish, principal of Fish Hoek High School, gave advice on reaching teenagers and setting boundaries which are appropriate for young adults and Mr Keith Richardson shared with us his experiences in engaging teenagers and some of the "do's and don'ts" of teaching.
Staff IT Visioning
A group of staff members from the whole school attended the first of two strategic planning workshops on the integration of technology into the school run by CouldEd, asking the question: “What will learning look like at Springfield in 2024?” The idea is to arrive at a single vision for the integration of ICT into the curriculum at Springfield as an “add-in” rather than an “add-on.” A follow-up session will be held in November at which the draft vision created will be formalised and strategies will be devised as to how this vision can be achieved at Springfield.
