We would like to remind all families that a number of students across various year levels at STP have serious allergies, including life-threatening anaphylaxis. Even tiny traces of certain allergens can trigger a severe and potentially life-threatening reaction in some children. Please see below the allergens that should be avoided at school.
Allergies/Anaphylaxis at STP - The following year levels have children with allergies:
Year P: Nuts, Sesame
Year 1: Wheat
Year 2: Eggs, Nuts, Seafood
Year 3: Nuts, Seafood, Wheat, Cow’s Milk, Kiwi
Year 4: Soy Sauce
Year 5: Nuts, Cow’s Milk, Eggs, Seafood, Kiwi, Pineapple
Year 6: Nuts, Sesame, Lentils
To reduce the risk of accidental exposure, please do not send any food products containing nuts, such as: Peanut butter, Nutella, Muesli bars or snack bars containing nuts, and any other nut-based spreads or baked goods.
Even a small amount of these allergens on hands, surfaces, or shared items can trigger a severe reaction.
Anaphylaxis is a medical emergency that can cause difficulty breathing, swelling, and unconsciousness within minutes. Children with anaphylaxis require immediate treatment with an adrenaline auto-injector (EpiPen) and urgent medical attention.
While we understand it can be challenging to maintain a completely nut-free school, we are deeply committed to minimising risks and ensuring a safe environment for all students. Your continued support and vigilance are greatly appreciated.
If your child has any allergies that have not yet been reported to the school, please contact the School Nurse as soon as possible.
