SPRINGFIELD PLATTEVIEW COMMUNITY SCHOOLS 24-25
Hello Springfield Platteview Families,
As we move into the heart of the fall season, I wanted to take a moment to highlight some of the exciting and meaningful events happening around our schools!
Our Auction fundraiser is this Saturday, and I want to extend a huge thank you to everyone who has worked so hard to make this event a success—especially our generous volunteers and sponsors. Your support makes a big difference and helps provide so many opportunities for our students.
We also kicked off Red Ribbon Week, a time to engage with our kids about making healthy choices and staying drug-free. It was inspiring to see the students really get involved with this important message, and I hope the conversations continue at home.
Halloween was another memorable event this year! The costumes were incredible, and the kids had a blast. At the district office, we had a fun car wash-themed display for the students—it's going to be tough to top that next year!
We’ve also had some other exciting events: the PC Career Fair, where students explored future career paths, and Art on Display at SPCS, showcasing the amazing talent of our students. Over at SES, families enjoyed a picnic and a visit from the fire trucks, and we’re looking forward to the upcoming Pancakes with Santa event.
Looking ahead, we’re thrilled for the One-Act Play performances starting tonight, and don’t forget that Thanksgiving break is just around the corner (November 27-29), so mark your calendars!
I’m incredibly proud of all that we’ve accomplished so far this year, and I’m excited for the many more wonderful things ahead. Thank you all for your continued support—it truly makes a difference. I also want to give a special shout-out to our staff for their hard work and dedication; it’s a labor of love, and we couldn’t do it without them.
Please take a moment to read through the following information about these events and more. Wishing you all a restful and joyful Thanksgiving!
Warm Regards,
Ryan Saunders, Ed.D.

Jordan Bald, 5th Grade teacher; Lauren Copeland, 2nd Grade teacher; Lynn Soneson, 4th Grade teacher—our brave Pie-in-the-Face "winners" from the PTO Fall Festival! This beloved Westmont tradition brings the school together for a great cause, helping raise funds to support our students and programs. What a fun way to end the assembly and kick off even more excitement! A huge thank you to everyone who participated and supported the event!
Attending school regularly helps children feel better about school—and themselves. Start building this habit in preschool so they learn right away that going to school on time, every day, is important. Eventually, good attendance will be a skill that will help them succeed in high school and college.
This year’s Halloween celebrations, both inside our schools and down Main Street, were truly epic! The creativity on display in the costumes was outstanding, and the excitement from the kids was infectious. From classroom festivities to the Main Street parade, everyone had an unforgettable time. A big thank you to all who participated and helped make this Halloween one to remember!
Red Ribbon Week is the nation’s largest and longest-running drug prevention program, and each year it serves as an important reminder about the dangers of drug use and the importance of making healthy, drug-free choices. We’re proud to have celebrated Red Ribbon Week 2024! While our schools celebrated in different ways, the message was clear: making safe choices and staying drug-free is key to building a strong future.
We hope this week sparks meaningful conversations at home, too. It’s so important to continue talking with your children about the value of saying "no" to drugs, standing up to peer pressure, and making smart decisions. These conversations matter, and they need to hear these messages often, as the challenges they face aren’t going away anytime soon.
Remember, your voice makes a difference. Your children are listening—and watching. Keep the conversation going; it truly makes an impact!
