Last year, email and Canvas messaging and announcements were used to establish a regular line of communication between myself, families and students. This communication assisted with reminders, updates, and check ins with students and families to ensure that students and families were informed of what was happening in the classroom on a daily basis.
Our district adopted Canvas as an LMS a few years back and since then, I have been able to really refine my Canvas courses and get them to a high level, but also maintain a simple and easy use/navigation for each of my courses that I teach. I have a separate Canvas course set up for all three grade levels, that gets slightly tweaked and changed as the year unfolds. Last year and this year, I rolled out a new Canvas course for my after school Offroad R/C Car Club, where I could post announcements, communicate with students and parents, as well as post any digital work that my students needed to be successful in the club. Lastly, I set aside a lot of time in the month of April and created a brand new COLT Vision Canvas course. This was a huge accomplishment, because now myself and the rest of the TV Studio Advisors have a much more organized way of reaching out to all of our COLT Vision students and have all of our TV Studio links and resources all in one spot!
