Art Lessons

3rd Grade

Hi there students, Mrs. Mews here with your Weekly Art Workshop. We are going to try our best to continue to learn and discover new Artists and Art Techniques through an online learning experience. Each video or assignment shared with you is a chance for you to express your creativity and exercise critical thinking skills as you problem solve to achieve a stellar at home masterpiece. If you do not have all the Art Mediums/Materials listed in each video to complete your at home Artwork please substitute with Art Materials that you do have access to...such as markers can be used instead of paints and crayons may be used in place of oil pastels. I will also include some substitute material suggestions as needed with each assignment. If you have questions at any time during your creative process please send an email to Mrs. Mews at the following address: jmews@soswolverines.org. You may also take photos of finished pieces, upload your images to your Google Drive or email and share them with me so I can check your progress and evaluate your creative techniques while offering feedback to each submitted assignment. As Keith Haring would say… “Art Is For EVERYONE” so let’s get to it...

Assignment 1 Painting Like Peter Max:

- Please follow only the portions of the video that apply to you and your current at home Art Studio.
- You may omit all paints and use only brightly colored markers or crayons to create your Max Flag.

Assignment 2 Drawing & Painting Like Salvador Dali

Please watch the youtube video pasted below by clicking the link or copy and pasting the web address into your browser and try your best to create a Surrealistic Style Pair of Birds in the style of famous Artist Salvador Dali.

- Please follow only the portions of the video that apply to you and your current at home Art Studio.
- You may omit all paints and use only brightly colored markers or crayons to create your Dali Birds.
- ***Challenge: If you feel comfortable drawing in Dali Style I challenge you to create addtional Surreal images on your paper...such as a horizon line (where the sky meets the ground), clouds, other items that are strange or don't belong with your birds...bunny rabbits with wings, a hair brush, tooth brush...etc.

Assignment 3

Pop Art Ice Cream...Like Andy Warhol

Please watch the youtube video pasted below by clicking the link or copy and pasting the web address into your browser and try your best to create a POP ART Style Ice Cream Tower in the style of famous Artist Andy Warhol.

- Please follow only the portions of the video that apply to you and your current at home Art Studio.
- Watch Google Slides Presenation By Mrs. Mews.
- You may use Crayons, Markers, or Colored Pencils to add color to your Warhol Inspired Ice Cream Towers.
- ***Pro Tip-I would suggest drawing your Ice Cream Tower with pencil first, then tracing over all pencil lines with Sharpie Marker.

Assignment 4

Silly Hearts Like Chris Uphues

Please watch the youtube video pasted below by clicking the link or copy and pasting the web address into your browser and try your best to create a page of 5-7 Silly Hearts in the style of famous Artist Chris Uphues.

- Please follow only the portions of the video that apply to you and your current at home Art Studio.
- Watch all 4 VIDEOS in the order that they appear on my WEBSITE.
- You do not need to practice hearts on a WHITEBOARD...you may use a piece of SCRATCH paper to practice drawing hearts as well as to create a practice sketch including faces.
- Trace all HEARTS and FACES with SHARPIE MARKER!
- If you DO NOT have "WASHABLE" Markers avaible you may use crayon to color your hearts...however you CAN NOT wet crayons so your finished product will look slightly different.
- If you do not have WATERCOLORS for your background you may use markers or crayons to create colored dots.

Assignment 5

Pirate Treasure Map

- Please follow only the portions of the video that apply to you and your current at home Art Studio.
- You may use Crayons or Colored Pencils to create your map...no markers as we want the map to look worn or old and markers would make your map look too "new." If you choose to dunk your art into coffee or tea to age your paper...markers WILL RUN! So definetly STAY AWAY from WASHABLE markers...Sharpie marker is FINE!
- If you DO NOT have coffee or tea to stain your paper...simple use a brown crayon or colored pencil to lightly color the background of your map. Then gently crumple your map to make it look "old."

DRAGON

- You may use Crayon, Marker, or Colored Pencil to add color to your Dragon.
- Pro Tip...Draw your Dragon first using a pencil this way if you make a mistake you can erase and start over. Once you are happy with your design trace over your pencil lines with Sharpie.
- Your dragon may be any colors you want it to be.

Firework Surprise

Pattern Hands
