1st Grade

Hi there students, Mrs. Mews here with your Weekly Art Workshop. We are going to try our best to continue to learn and discover new Artists and Art Techniques through an online learning experience. Each video or assignment shared with you is a chance for you to express your creativity and exercise critical thinking skills as you problem solve to achieve a stellar at home masterpiece. If you do not have all the Art Mediums/Materials listed in each video to complete your at home Artwork please substitute with Art Materials that you do have access to...such as markers can be used instead of paints and crayons may be used in place of oil pastels. I will also include some substitute material suggestions as needed with each assignment. If you have questions at any time during your creative process please send an email to Mrs. Mews at the following address: jmews@soswolverines.org. You may also take photos of finished pieces, upload your images to your Google Drive or email and share them with me so I can check your progress and evaluate your creative techniques while offering feedback to each submitted assignment. Assignment 1 Painting Hearts Like Peter Max:

- Please follow only the portions of the video that apply to you and your current at home Art Studio.
- You may substitute oil pastel for crayon and still use watercolors to add color, or you may omit all paints and use only brightly colored markers to create your Max Heart.

Assignment 2: Silly Cities Like James Rizzi

Please watch the youtube video pasted below by clicking the link or copy and pasting the web address into your browser and try your best to create a POP ART Style Silly City in the style of famous James Rizzi Max.

- Please follow only the portions of the video that apply to you and your current at home Art Studio.
- Please watch the Google Slides Presenation created by Mrs. Mews.
- Instead of cutting out your city and pasting it onto a "Starry Night" background as mentioned in the video please add silly James Rizzi inspired items to your sky...such as a sun with a face a moon, clouds, spaceship, stars, birds, flowers hearts, etc.
- Once your Rizzi City is completed in pencil use Markers, Crayons, or a combonation of the two to add color to your Silly City.

Assignment 3

ROBOTS, ROBOTS, ROBOTS

- Please follow only the portions of the video that apply to you and your current at home Art Studio.
- You may substitute washable markers and water for crayons...or simply color with markers but don't spread them with water.

Assignment 4

Drawing & Printing a Peacock

- Please follow only the portions of the video that apply to you and your current at home Art Studio.
- You may substitute paints for markers or crayons when creating your drawn PEACOCK, and if you DO NOT have the supplies/PAINTS to create a HANDPRINTED Peacock then SKIP this part of the tutorial.
- Once your Peacock is created please create a background enviornment for your beautiful bird such as grass, trees, flowers, etc.

Fauve Style Self Portraits Like Henri Matisse

- Please follow only the portions of the video that apply to you and your current at home Art Studio.
- If you DO NOT have Chalk please use Markers or Colored Pencils.
- If you DO NOT have Oil Pastels please use Crayon.
- If you DO NOT have Watercolors...you may just fill your entire background with oils or crayon.

Assignment 6

Surprise Shark

- Please follow only the portions of the video that apply to you and your current at home Art Studio.
- You may use Crayon, Marker, or Colored Pencil to add color to your Shark.
- Pro Tip...Draw your Shark first using a pencil this way if you make a mistake you can erase and start over. Once you are happy with your design trace over your pencil lines with Sharpie.
- Your Shark may be any colors you want it to be.

Drawing a Monarch

- ***Pro Tip...I would draw your Butterfly elements with pencil first then start tracing lines...finally fill in with marker or crayon.
- Feel free to add more details, colors, or background elements that ARE NOT SHOWN in the VIDEO...make it YOUR ART!

Pattern Hands

- Feel free to add more details, colors, or background elements that ARE NOT SHOWN in the VIDEO...make it YOUR ART!
