AN INTERVIEW WITH LUCA MARCON
a winegrower at the "Tenuta I Marcon"
Why did your vineyard decide to focus on caring for the soil microbiota?
Because after years of using conventional techniques based on synthetic chemicals, the results were not as expected — or at least not what was promised on the labels of commercial products. At that point, I started asking myself how vines survive in nature without human intervention. That’s when I began researching the interaction between plants and soil.
I realized that protecting the microbiota was, ethically, the most effective way to care for the soil and, consequently, for the vines, which exist in close symbiosis with it. In turn, the vines responded with improved vegetative growth and higher production and quality levels compared to when synthetic chemicals were used indiscriminately.
Climate change: how is it impacting your work, and how do you think it will shape the future?
Climate change is becoming a very serious problem. It makes my work more complex, because we can no longer rely on predictability. As a result, we can’t make long-term decisions; instead, we need the flexibility to adapt to sudden changes. It’s essential to strengthen the vines, so they are able to respond on their own to the changes that are happening.
How do you envision your vineyard in 10 years, and how are you working to build it?
In such an uncertain context, it’s hard to make predictions. Day by day, I focus on respecting the soil to preserve its microbiological balance, which I now understand is the only true guarantee for continuity in production.
What is your idea of wine?
Today, wine is not a basic necessity for survival — it represents celebration and conviviality. Fortunately, today’s consumers are more informed and have more refined palates; they seek wines that truly express the character of the land.
Why did you choose Resonant, and what benefits have you seen?
After starting to use Resonant, I immediately noticed an improvement in vine growth and grape production.
Which Resonant product do you use, and why?
I use Fortify Sparkling because it was recommended for white grape varieties destined for sparkling wine production.
How have the Resonant products changed your approach in the vineyard and in the winery? What impact have they had on your wine?
We’re members of the local cooperative winery, so we can’t speak directly about the impact on the wine. However, we can say that, with the same pruning practices, we’ve seen improvements in yield, sugar levels, and total acidity.
Who would you recommend the Resonant products to, and why?
I would recommend them to all fellow winegrowers who want to adopt a more sustainable approach to production — not just in economic terms. I’m convinced that if the soil is healthy, it will support strong, healthy vines.
