AN INTERVIEW WITH ENRICO PRIZZON
a winemaker at the Prizzon Vineyard
Why did your vineyard decide to focus on caring for the soil microbiota?
Our vineyard has always worked to preserve the fertility of the soil and its organic matter content. We believe that fostering microbial activity is key to practicing more sustainable viticulture — and will be fundamental in the future to help vines cope with the increasing stresses brought on by environmental change.
Climate change: how is it affecting your work, and how do you think it will shape your future?
It’s already creating serious challenges, especially during extreme events like hailstorms and heatwaves. We've had to adjust several vineyard practices, such as defoliation. Looking ahead, we’ll need to adopt tools and strategies to deal with climate extremes — including micro-irrigation systems, improved drainage, enhancing soil structure, and fine-tuning our vineyard management techniques.
Why did you choose Resonant, and what benefits have you seen?
Using Resonant products over the past few years has allowed us to significantly cut back on fertilization. We've noticed greater vine resilience to stress, improved nutrient uptake, and better soil structure overall.
Which Resonant product do you use and why?
We use Fortify Sparkling, since we grow grapes for sparkling wine production where there is a need to achieve good yields while preserving acidity.
How have Resonant products changed your approach in the vineyard and the winery? What impact have they had on the wine?
With the Resonant for Wine products, we have significantly reduced the use of fertilizers, increased awareness of soil fertility, and promoted the adoption of increasingly sustainable practices.
Who would you recommend Resonant products to, and why?
To all viticulturists and wine producers, as nurturing the soil microbiota delivers several positive—and arguably essential—benefits for mitigating climate change.
