Creative Literacy will provide an opportunity for students to improve their analytical reading skills and writing skills. Students will deepen their understanding of various author’s craft moves with book studies of classic and contemporary writers. The course will also cover writer’s workshop units where students will develop their own writing skills in various formats. All of this work has a direct impact on a student’s ability to think critically and demonstrate their analytical reading and writing skills on year-end assessments.
For 2026-2027
Creative Literacy offers students the opportunity to explore young adult literature through specific genres including Science Fiction and Fantasy. Students will explore texts of their choice throughout the year, to deepen their understanding of how specific genres of literature typically work, and how authors sometimes break the rules to keep readers on their toes. This course offers a mix of book club reading, where students can choose what they read, and creative projects to support the development of critical thinking skills.
This class is perfect for students who want the freedom to explore the rules that successful authors follow, and write their own stories. The class will strengthen students' abilities to analyze specific genres of literature, and also apply their learning in their own creative writing.
