Mission
The St. Norbert College Education program develops teachers at the intersection of theory and practice. We explore critical issues and practices that cultivate life-long learning through innovative pedagogy in diverse content areas. Pre-service teachers are immediately immersed in multiple, structured, PK-12 experiences to support program outcomes and community needs. We engage pre-service teachers in the Catholic, liberal arts, and Norbertine intellectual traditions through the conscious integration of social justice practices, service-learning endeavors, and interdisciplinary pursuits. We believe that excellence in education requires a commitment to equity, social justice, and response to community needs.
Vision
We believe that equity in education requires a personal and institutional commitment to social justice and responsiveness to community needs. We strive to prepare racially conscious, culturally responsive, sensitive, and humble teachers who demonstrate a lifetime commitment to social action and advocacy. We also believe that excellence in education requires deep subject matter knowledge combined with pedagogical and critical thinking skills. We aspire to be the premier teacher education program in the State of Wisconsin by providing candidates with the knowledge, skills, and dispositions to ensure that each child is successful regardless of their external or internal, social or cultural contexts.
