We place students typically within 35 miles of St. Norbert College both in private/parochial school districts like GRACE or Xavier or Roncalli districts, and also in Public Schools in all four directions. Use Google Maps to see which schools and districts might fall within that approximate area.

The Wisconsin Improvement Program (WIP) provides an opportunity for school districts, educator preparation programs, and the Department of Public Instruction to collaborate in preparing future teachers. WIP pairs student interns with cooperating teachers in a semester-long clinical experience. The WIP internship is a paid student teaching placement ($4500) arranged by the respective school district with approval by the Department of Public Instruction (DPI). You have to apply separately to SNC teacher education to be eligible for this.

The Wisconsin Rural School Teacher Talent Pilot Program (ie. Wisconsin Rural Grant), allows for a stipend (varies depending on the number of student teachers) for each quarter a student teacher spends in a qualifying rural school. There are approximately 10 school districts that currently meet that definition of “rural” that are within 45 miles of SNC. Students who do their student teaching in these schools are eligible to receive a small stipend (approx ~$1250 a quarter).

If you are interested in doing part of your student teaching abroad, please contact Dr. Bola Delano-Oriaran to discuss this option and the expectations. If accepted, you will complete a placement here in the US for the first half of the semester, submit your Teacher Work Sample, and then do a second placement for the second half of the semester in the country abroad. This experience can be quite rewarding, and I encourage you to apply if interested.
