The BC Certificate of Graduation from secondary school is known as the "Dogwood Diploma" named after the official tree of BC (pictured left).
Students are encouraged to book a meeting with their Academic Advisor/University Counsellor to talk through the specific details of graduating from SMUS.
Students and Parents may also want to become familiar with the guidelines described on the BC Provincial Government website for the Dogwood Diploma.
Yes. All students write the three BC Graduation Assessments as graduation requirements: Numeracy 10, Literacy 10 and Literacy 12.
These assessments measure student proficiency across curricula. Students will have up to three opportunities to write each assessment. The results of the assessments will appear on the student’s school transcript but do not affect any course grades. Some universities will consider the Literacy 12 assessment in their admission decisions (e.g. UBC considers achievement on the Literacy 12 assessment; students should discuss this with their University Counsellor).
