KS4 Curriculum

Students at KS4 get 2 hours of PE every fortnight. The curriculum involves a wide range of both team and individual sports and offers students the opportunity to continue to develop their physical skills, understanding of tactical and strategic skills and develop their physical health, well-being and fitness.

GCSE PE students use their PE lessons to continue their GCSE PE Practical assessments with skills being assessed in isolation and in competitive situations within lessons.

Within practical lessons KS4 students continue be taught key theoretical principles required to be involved in a lifestyle that is physically active and healthy. This is taught via the PE Knowledge Rich Curriculum (more details can be found on the Knowledge Rich Curriculum sub page).

Sports that are taught in KS4 include: Athletics, Basketball, Badminton, Cricket, Dodgeball, Football, Gymnastics, Handball, Hockey, Fitness training, Netball, Rounders, Rugby Outdoor Adventurous Activities and Tennis.

Sports Leaders

During Year 10 all students complete a Sports Leadership course within their PE lessons. The students have the opportunity to utilise the skills and qualities learnt throughout the leadership course during a Smithdon High School cluster 'Primary School Festival' organised and led by Year 10 sports leaders.
