PE Curriculum

The PE department at Smithdon High School provides plenty of opportunities for its students to develop their skills, understanding and knowledge of Physical Education in a wide range of sports and physical activity environments. The school has a recently renovated Sports Hall (see photos below), a gymnasium, hard court multi game surfaces and a large playing field which houses pitches for many different sports.

During lessons, students experience a wide range of different sports as part of a varied curriculum. These sports include:

Athletics, Basketball, Badminton, Cricket, Dodgeball, Football, Gymnastics, Handball, Hockey, Fitness training, Netball, Rounders, Rugby Outdoor Adventurous Activities and Tennis.

The department also delivers key theoretical knowledge through its Knowledge Rich Curriculum which enriches students with the knowledge required to lead a lifelong physically active lifestyle and gain all the physical, emotional and social benefits of being physically active.

Students also have opportunities to develop leadership and communication skills both within lessons and through leadership courses and opportunities with cluster primary schools.

The department also offers wide range of co-curricular clubs both at lunch times and after school with the opportunity to continue to develop and progress skills learnt in lessons and represent the school in a wide range of teams.
