Knowledge Rich Curriculum

In conjunction with our practical lessons, students are taught fundamental theoretical content that ensure they have the key knowledge to be able to have a lifestyle that ensures they are physically active and have good physical, emotional and social well-being.

This information includes how body systems work and operate when we exercise, names of key physiological structures in the body directly related to sport and exercise, the benefits of of healthy active lifestyle, factors to consider when taking part in physical activity or exercise, the requirements of a balanced diet and the effects of a sedentary lifestyle as well as many more. The theoretical topics studied during each term can be seen in the PE Knowledge Rich Curriculum Content Map below.

At KS3 the teaching of each topic is supported with a Knowledge Organiser that details the key theoretical information, looks at key misconceptions within the topic and also offers practice questions for students to try. The Knowledge Rich Content is assessed twice a year in an examination paper. Knowledge Organisers for Years 7-9 can be found in the sub pages menu at the top of this page.

At KS4 the Knowledge Rich content is covered through practical methods and activities within the students' lessons.
