James Browne is a Graduate of Towson University and is the Director of Bands at Great Mills High School. During his time at Towson University, Mr. Browne has played with the newly formed Symphonic Band under the direction of Brian Balmages, a successful composer and arranger. Mr. Browne has also had the amazing opportunity to play in the Wind Ensemble under the direction of Dr. Christopher Cicconi. During Mr. Browne’s time at Towson University, Mr. Browne received extensive training in both Choral and Instrumental Instruction, along with countless hours of playing his primary instrument of Tuba, and learning various instruments to ensure that instruction is rounded out for future students. Mr. Browne's time at Towson University provided exponential educational growth, both as a learner and an educator.
Prior to attending Towson University, Mr. Browne attended the College of Southern Maryland and earned an Associates degree in Secondary Education, Music, and General Studies. During this time, Mr. Browne played with Solid Brass, Southern Maryland Concert Band, and Ritmo Caché's Latin Ensemble. During this time, Mr. Browne also participated as a Marching Band Staff Member for the Great Mills High School Marching Band, led by prior Director of Bands, Matthew C. Pearson. Mr. Browne also graduated from Great Mills High School in 2015 after participating in the Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and the Marching Band throughout the years of 2010 to 2015 under the Direction of Robert Mattera.
As an Alumni of Great Mills High School, Mr. Browne is honored to be able to come back and continue the legacy that was started over a decade ago under the Direction of Robert Mattera, and continued by Matthew Pearson. With the information provided through years of study, and more years to come, Mr. Browne is proud to represent the saying: “We are…Great Mills.”
Mr. Ramsey played in the USBands Circuit for 4 years while in High School. He played Tuba, Trombone, and Baritone. After graduating from High School, he went to Salisbury University and graduated with a degree in Biology and Secondary Education. While at Salisbury University, he was the President of the Pep Band for 2 and a half years, helping it grow from 6 members to 23 members in that time. He also had the Pep Band play at their first football game while being the president. He teched with the James M. Bennett High School for 1 year, helping them compete in the TOB Circuit as a 3 Open Band. He moved to St. Mary's County and started to tech brass, then winds, before finally earning the role of Assistant Director in 2023. As the Assistant Director, he offers a different light on music for the students. While he does not have a degree in music, he has learned a variety of skills that assist the students in becoming better musicians, and more importantly, better humans.
