Making Spaces @ SMCOE: SMCOE is based in San Mateo County, CA and will support between 5-10 local schools.
In partnership with Maker Ed selected schools will:
Participate in ongoing professional development with SMCOE
At least one teacher and one administrator must participate in professional development workshops and project meetings
Design and implement a maker-related education opportunity or space in your school
Create and launch a crowdfunding campaign to fund your project or space
Implement making as a learning process at your school
Engage with other educators through meetings and professional development workshops
Contribute to research and evaluation efforts to share this work with the field
Schools will receive:
A stipend of at least $500 to support this initiative
Training and support from SMCOE
A Toolkit of Resources to support the development of your vision and crowdfunding campaign
Connection to a nation-wide community of maker educators
A new approach to partnership and revenue for professional development and related services for schools and educational partners
Visibility in a national effort that has drawn attention from the White House
Program Timeline:
Fall-Winter 2016 - Hubs and schools begin visioning and crowdfunding efforts
Winter-Spring 2017 - Schools successfully launch fundraising campaigns
Spring-Summer 2017 - Schools begin work to plan and implement their makerspace/programs
2017-2018 School Year - Hubs support schools in implementing their makerspace/programs
