"The capacity to learn is a gift; the ability to learn is a skill; the willingness to learn is a choice." - Brian Herbert
Goal: During this week students will learn about neuroplasticity, how the brain works, and how understanding these things can allow them to utilize study practices that support self-regulated learning.
Objective: At the end of module 5 students will be able to describe, in general, how the brain works using growth mindset as the underlying theory. They will also be able to list study strategies that support self-regulated learning based on how the brain works.
IDEA(2) Focus: Is anyone neurotypical?
View following video introducing Neuroplasticity
Read through the following neuroplasticity handout
Consider the following questions (you do not need to write out your answers, just think them through)
Think about the two types of brain changes described in the handout (chemical and structural)
What study habits align with chemical changes?
What study habits align with structural changes?
What types of changes result in the type you are interested in as a student?
So what might this mean for how you should study?
