Goal: This week students will discuss the importance of belonging to a community and networking.
Objective: By the end of this week students will be able to describe actions they can take towards building a community at SMCM. They will also be able to describe networking and the benefits of doing so.
IDEA(2) Focus: Who is "allowed" into the community?
Social relationships play a major role in the success of first-year students and can impact their overall success. Family, friends, instructors, and organization/sports/activity members can all help (or at times hinder) someone during their time in school and beyond. Additionally, the network a person builds in college can have a lasting impact on a students wellbeing as well as their career.
In later modules we will discuss faculty/student academic relationships and teamwork (working on group projects). In this module we will talk about peer/friend networks and the process of networking.
