UK Courageous Advocacy

2023-2024

In September we hosted a Macmillan Coffee Morning, where we raised awareness of cancer. This allowed for discussions between people who have been affected. Cakes were baked, and donations of money and time were given.

Environment Team members from each school made a presentation relating to an environmental concern that was important and meaningful to them. They met with local MP’s: Cllr Sarah Hall and Cllr Mo Hussain to share their concerns, acting as agents of change to lobby Council Members.

During our Harvest festival we collected donations for Warrington Foodbank, which has supported our own families in the past, and tackles food poverty within our local community. Worship Council members lead the collection of food donations and cleaning products ‘making a difference amongst our own community’.

In November we took part in the Remembrance Day Poppy Appeal, in support of retired and active members of the armed forces. This was lead and organised and delivered by the School Parliament and the Worship Council.

On UNICEF World Children's Day, the ministries wrote and delivered an assembly on an issue that they care about. They invited family, friends and governors to share their concerns. They advocated the fight for children’s rights and welfare across the World in particular child labour and poverty. They challenged everyone to think about how they could make a difference.

Before Christmas we connect with the charity Jump to help raise money for them. Jump is a registered children's charity supporting children with life limiting health conditions. Pupils purchased Bauble kits then created their own bauble.

We raised £500!

Our lovely Young Crescendos, sang medley of Christmas songs during a Christmas Lunch for elderly members of our local Community at Orford Community Hub.  It provided much needed company and an opportunity for members of our aging community  to feel valued and cared for.

For our Christmas Fayre, pupils donated various items such as: chocolate and bottles to be sold on the tombolas. Our staff also ran Santa's Grotto and a Higher or Lower stall. All contributions went to St Margaret's and All Hallows Church, Orford. The Young Crescendos also sang a medley of Christmas songs during the fayre.

Lent Appeal - Give Act Pray - whole school – lead by Worship Council

Give – food or hygiene product donation – Warrington Foodbank

Act – individual pledge to make a ‘positive act’ to help others or the environment

Pray – write and share a prayer with ‘members of school community’

At the start of the academic year we launched a very successful gardening club to clean up and improve the environment for wildlife around our school grounds. We look forward to seeing what else they achieve throughout the year.
