What's a Curriculum Vitae?

Many programs will ask applicants to submit a curriculum vitae (CV), which is a summary of one's academic experiences and qualifications. CVs are expected to vary by individuals and it is important for students interested in graduate school to think early about how to build their professional profiles using the elements of a CV.

To get started, please take a look at this Sample Undergraduate CV from the University of California, Santa Cruz. It is a very good example of what a CV from an undergraduate student might look like.

At the graduate level, you would expect the CV to have more information. Take a look at this sample student CV from the University of Nebraska - Lincoln. This CV highlights what kinds of experiences should and should not be listed. It should also give students ideas about what kinds of co-curricular activities would be valued.
