2018 Finances for Internationals Event: A Reported Success (Feb. 23, 2018)

The International Faculty and Staff Association (IFSA) hosted the first event of a planned event series, discussing important topics relevant to our international faculty and staff community.

The first event in this series held the title “Finances for Internationals”, and it touched on multiple important aspects of financial planning and retirement for foreign persons in the US. Our guest speakers included Lara Mayhew, Financial Consultant from TIAA; Weimin Wang, Associate Professor of Accounting at

SLU; and Elisabeth King, Benefits Manager in Human Resources at SLU.

The thorough presentations triggered an engaging conversation between our participants and our experts regarding retirement planning, tax efficient investing strategies and tools, SLU’s financial benefits, finding the right accountants, and many other topics. “Today's event was one of the best and most practical events that I attended recently” - reported an attendee, Hisako Matsuo, Ph.D.

The IFSA is hoping to keep this newest tradition going and to bring more events with useful topics like this to our community. The next event is planned for April, and will include topics related to healthcare, health insurance, and tips on how to navigate the US healthcare system. Stay tuned for communication from IFSA@slu.edu.
