Creative Ways to Be with Friends

Students from around campus have compiled this list of fun, creative, socially distant activities. Consider taking screenshots of this page so you can reference these activities throughout the semester.

Things to do with friends in person:

While we cannot socialize as we are used to, there are many things we can do to be together in person, outside, from more than six feet apart.

  • Eat dinner in lawn chairs or on blankets

  • Go somewhere on campus and text your friends clues to find you (be safe!)

  • Spend time with wildlife by the Cook Hall and Olive-Compton ponds

  • Kick a soccer ball and create makeshift goals

  • Play catch with a Frisbee or baseball

  • Take pictures imitating statues on campus

  • Study outside

  • Everyone find the most bizarre book you can from the library catalog and meet up to read pages out loud

  • Yoga or other exercise

  • Go for a distanced walk

  • Attend events through Billikens After Dark, the Student Involvement Center, or other SLU organizations

  • Come up with a series of competitions you can do distantly and keep score

  • BYOH (Bring Your Own Hammock!)

  • Arts and crafts outside — BYOS (Bring Your Own Supplies!)

  • Play improv games

  • Go on an on-campus coffee date

  • Get up early to watch the sunrise together near the clock tower or College Church

  • Water balloon toss/fight or capture the flag

  • Pilgrimage from College Church to the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Louis

Things to do with friends online:

During bad weather, late at night, or to be safer, virtual experiences could be preferable to in-person activity.

On Zoom:

  • Jackbox Games

  • Scattergories

  • Skribbl

  • Do a workout or join a virtual group fitness class through the Simon Recreation Center together

  • Arrange for friends from high school to meet SLU friends

  • Host an evening with friends and their parents to meet and mingle in breakout rooms

  • Have a Zoom homework session

Other:

  • Netflix watch parties

  • Spotify group listening sessions

  • Live online video games or e-sports
