BATCH SANGHAYA CLASS OF 2022-2023
The return of pre-pandemic traditions and rules from the old AFROTC of SLU Boys High aimed to meet the expectations of discipline and camaraderie for the new and incoming SLU Rover Scouts post-pandemic. This included reintroducing military-style ranking and leadership, establishing the Rover Cadet Corps, Rover Circle Committee, and the Rover Officer Corps. This development allowed non-officer members to attain institutional ranks within the Rover Cadet Corps based on their moral character, activeness, and participation in all organizational events. The Sanghaya Administration also had to foster a new style of governance to make up for the lack of manpower and to let go of a divided Officer branch in favor of a unified Rover Officer Corps for all Circles, replacing the pre-pandemic Triumvirate Leadership style.
Biweekly Physical Training (PT) paved the way for Rovers to be more fit and mentally alert as military-style formation drills and rifle training were introduced. Mistakes during the PT were met with formation-wide physical punishments such as push-ups and pumps, enforcing the need for mental alertness and discipline among the Rover Scouts.
In response to disciplinary issues among the students within the campus, such as vaping during breaks or between clas and ses, Rover Patrols were implemented to enforce campus discipline, with the approval and support of the SLU administration. This concept required improved field communications for effectiveness and to minimize the use of the “runner” for better marshaling and emergency response. This led to the establishment of early-stage and premature institutional Rover Radio Operations. During this period, the SLU Rovers became a prominent Emergency Response Team and First Aid Responders during school earthquake and fire drills, as well as other emergencies, thanks to the quick and calm response by the Rover Radio Ops.
Outside deployments, after two years of no activities, gave way for connections outside the school itself, with other scouting organizations revering or respecting the SLU Rover Scouts as an organization and provider of competent student leaders in the field, being able to handle major tasks on the whim given by the BSP Baguio City Council.
Lastly, student organizations like the SANAMA increasingly relied on the SLU Rover Scouts for campus discipline and security matters. A notable highlight of this cooperation was the annual "Tanglaw Day" or "Oplan Tanglaw" event for the Rovers, wherein SANAMA requested and relied on the manpower pool of the Rover Scouts to perform duties such as gate-marshaling, material procurement, ticket checking, and many more.
