If you teach with Google Apps, you know Google Classroom is the home base for messages, lesson plans, assignments and grades. All SLCP training will use Classroom so you get practice, because it is the foundation for how we will do Remote Learning, along with Meet.
Other SPS schools that do not use Google use either Unified Classroom or Microsoft Teams for Education to manage remote learning.
Springfield Public Schools has a huge team and system for getting help with SPS laptops and district apps like PowerSchool, Unified Classroom and TeachPoint. SLCP has one person who hopes you will ask your colleagues first! Here's a form to ask for help.
Google Meet is not a great as Zoom right now. It's getting better, with add-ons that give you Zoom's grid views and breakout rooms and attendee lists. Unlike Zoom, you can play audio from a YouTube and cancel out non-voice noise. Soon Meet will import student lists from Google Classroom (see below) and automatically take attendance, among other features we need.
You are now on a Google Site. Unlike other websites, it can be controlled so that only people with slprep.org email accounts can see it. Sites integrate very nicely with Google apps and are a great "home page" for your courses. There are two versions, "Classic" and "New", and the new version is mobile-responsive (so looks great on an iPhone).
For help with PowerSchool / Unified Classroom or TeachPoint, or SPS-provided laptops, check the SPS KnowledgeBase Page. If you can't find an answer there, submit a help ticket. If you can't submit a ticket, call SPS's Help Desk (750-2175) and leave your name and phone number.
Our administrators use non-Google tools for project management (Asana) and database management (AirTable). We also use Google Tools in particular ways (such as rolling agendas with task follow-ups). These tools are also great for department and grade level planning, or for projects that connect SLCP with external partners.
