“Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Learn from it; tomorrow is a new day.”
-Ralph Waldo Emerson
Good Evening Team and Family –
Day # 2 was the byproduct of what can happen when “half-time” adjustments are made by the entire team. Yesterday, we came together as a school community, offered constructive feedback, and developed a winning blueprint for day #2. This blueprint produced engaging lessons that were observed across the board, as echoed by many in today’s “broken windows” meeting. Furthermore, we were able to cultivate and share a positive energy that students and parents could truly feel-and through the internet at that. If day #2 looks like this, imagine what our school will look like in June of 2021-let's continue operating at a high level, and with love in our hearts. As we enter day #3, please refer to the big rocks below to help guide you along:
Attendance – Today was much improved as we made quite the percentage leap in attendance (rising from 66% to 74%). Now that we have two days under our belt, let us continue to meet attendance expectations, by entering all data in PowerSchool by 11am. In the event that the system crashes, we will continue to track attendance using this document. As mentioned yesterday, please continue to make sure to start reaching out to families, and encourage them to go directly to school if they are in need of any type of support.
Support – The theme of “support” was evident in today’s “broken windows” meeting. Many of us are experiencing various levels of challenges during our instructional blocks. Some of these challenges include: language translation, technological difficulties, large/small rosters, etc. As we continue to identify these roadblocks, let's continue to support one another by popping into each other's classes, and lending a hand when possible.
Communication– Communication is essential in the remote world. By opening up more channels of communication, and keeping messages simple, we can better allow our students and parents to access what they need from us. How and when we post information in our Google Classrooms, oftentimes determines an outcome in synchronous and asynchronous lessons. Make sure to model and message to students how their schedules work-new behavior becomes automatic in roughly 66 days (fun fact)!
Tomorrow, we will continue visiting more classrooms. We look forward to seeing everyone. Please feel free to send me any feedback or thoughts regarding ways that we can support you. Thank you for all of your efforts on day #2 – today was much smoother, and we are getting more and more proficient in our systems each day. Our joy, and nurturing spirit is becoming infectious, and it's evident in today’s attendance numbers. Our students truly want to be here. Let's continue being trailblazers for our students and community!
