"I have been a Volunteer Mentor at Skills for Change’s Mentoring for Change program for over two years, and I can say that my proudest achievement as a Mentor is inspiring my Mentee to become the changemaker of today. Having been on both sides of the mentor/mentee relationship, I have utilized my experiences to pass on knowledge and expertise when working with others. Meeting with my Mentee put me at ease, as I had noticed that he was eager to make it here in his new home, Canada. One of the things I have learned about mentoring is that it’s a partnership in which the mentor is not only giving, but the Mentee is reciprocating, by being attentive and utilizing what they are being taught. Since being a mentor, I have gained leadership skills, strong communication skills, and confidence in higher self-awareness of myself. I am delighted to share that my Mentee is now my colleague, working with me in the same non-profit sector, raising awareness about health within communities that are heavily affected by the COVID-19 virus." I consider it a pleasure and a privilege to be a mentor at Skills for Change!
